Moving house date

Should the date that you move your furniture/belongings align to the auspicious date to move, or should it align to when you actually move into the apt/house and sleep there for the first night? I'll be moving in Dec, but I'm planning to move my furniture/belongings first, then move in a few days later. (To avoid the smell of freshly painted walls)
Large furniture such as bed, wardrobe, sofa etc. should be moved align to when you actually move into the apt/house and sleep there for the first night on an auspicious moving date.
Some small personal belongs can be moved before you really move in.
